5/31 – NEW transcript generator!
4/10 – NEW improved interface design!
We’ve all been frustrated with the currently available chat clients, right? Server-based sites bog down with too many users, and general Twitter clients (like TweetDeck, HootSuite, etc.) are not really designed for the focused interactivity of a Twitter chat.
There’s got to be a better way, you might be thinking. There is:
The killer capability of the custom-designed chat client called ChatTagged is your “filtered” stream, where you can interact with selected people, including those who are responding to/messaging you personally.
Co-developed by Steve Woodruff and Shannon Whitley, ChatTagged is an effort to help us all participate more easily in Twitter chats, while avoiding the problems of existing interfaces. A number of Twitter chat participants (starting with #LeadershipChat) have been test-driving the client out; now we’re ready to roll it out to the broader Twitter community (yes, ChatTagged can be used for any chat/hashtag).
ChatTagged is built as a Silverlight app, which means it is running locally, and doesn’t choke like (server-based) TweetChat. That’s the biggest need here – scalability. Running as a local app (like TweetDeck does, running on Adobe Air) means that it is much faster and it doesn’t matter how many people are using it. It just works (well, mostly – still in beta!)
We’d love for you to try it out with us! Here’s how:
1. Microsoft Silverlight: if you don’t already have that plug-in/app downloaded and installed, you’ll need it (check here and install if you need to). So far we’ve tested the Silverlight/ChatTagged combo on PCs and Macs, and with various browsers – no major problems.
2. Here is the link to the client: http://chattagged.com/ Using it should be pretty much self-explanatory, but there are some cool features in there, so take a minute to look over this handy graphic for instructions –>
3. INPUT: Yes, ChatTagged is still beta, so you may run into an issue or two. PLEASE share your experiences, bug reports, and suggestions with us – just put it into an e-mail to swhitley (at) whitleymedia (dot) com.
Enjoy the ChatTagged experience, and help us improve it for you!
[…] UPDATE: Shannon Whitley and I have designed the solution. Check out ChatTagged!! […]
Steve, this really looks great! I’m looking forward to dipping my toes back into LeadershipChat using this tool. Have a feeling it could make it a much better experience for folks like me.
This is a great idea! I’ve been using streams in Hootsuite to manage twitter chats but this looks so much more efficient. Will be trying this out for sure!
Nate.
